TZP (tetragonal zirconia polycrystal), also known as ceramic steel,
is tougher than any other ceramic available today. Imagine ceramic parts with the toughness of steel, but with greater surface
hardness, higher abrasion and corrosion resistance.
Development
A family of patented zirconia ceramics and composites was
developed by Dr. Sam Ghosh at Kodak Research Labs to meet Eastman Kodak's demanding film manufacturing processes; processes that do not tolerate downtime; processes that generate high surface wear in a highly corrosive atmosphere. After his retirement from Kodak, Dr. Ghosh founded RocCera LLC in 2006 to design and manufacture advanced ceramic zirconia components.
Advantages
Zirconia’s molecular structure gives it properties like those of a diamond, the hardest substance known to man. It is harder then steel, resists corrosion and has superior abrasion and wear resistance.
Net Shape Manufacturing
Net shape manufacturing focuses on the manufacture of discrete parts to net or near net dimensions. RocCera's net shape manufacturing techniques eliminate diamond tooling and longer processing time associated with traditional ceramic manufacturing, reducing cost by as much as 80%.
